Harvey Hit Us 9 Months Ago

We are finally making progress on this forced renovation project. This picture was taking standing in my children’s bedroom, which they used to share. This room was the nursery when Asa was born, where I slept with him for the first 18 months of his life. When we were preparing for his birth, I really wanted a “nursery” for him. Addis and Perrin were born in an apartment, and we didn’t really have that nursery feel for them – just tucked them in wherever they fit. But this was our home, so we could make it baby cute! I don’t know how long it took me to pick out the paint, finally settling in a bright happy green – nothing to gendered. Jeff worked hard to finish the paint before Asa made his dramatic entrance (that is another story).  We put changing table that Jeff made for Perrin next to the crib we borrowed from Grandma, decorated it with gifts from the baby shower our neighbors threw, and called it done.

It is pretty empty now. You can see through to the master bedroom on the left, the boys’ bathroom on the right (where the plumbing is visible, straight through to the windows in the living room.

For awhile, it was really hard for me to walk through the house to get anything done. I got used to tears streaming down my face whenever I was here. But it’s really exciting to see it in this condition, because it means we’re moving forward.
